SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

Simple Present Tense is used to express habitual or everyday activity. It says that something was true or general statement of fact.
There are two kinds of sentences in simple present tense.

A. Verbal Sentence
  •  Verbal sentence means that the sentence has a verb or action verb for example: cook, study, learn and etc. In this case of simple present tense verbal sentence, we should add S/ES if the subject is singular. Meanwhile, if the subject is plural, you just use Verb 1 or do not add S/ES.

These are the example of Verbal sentence from Simple Present Tense:
a. (+) She goes to school everyday
b. (+) They go to English course in every Monday afternoon.
Sentence a and b have different subject. subject "She " in sentence a should add "es" in verb go because it is singular. In sentence b, the subject plural "They" so use the verb 1.

Form:
 S+ V s/es
  • For the negative form of verbal sentence, it use DON'T and DOESN'T. The use don't and doesn't depend on the subject.

 I
YOU
WE                 +  Don't  + Verb 1
THEY
plural

HE
SHE                + Doesn't + Verb 1
IT
Singular

The example of negative form are:
a. (-) The students don't hear the teacher's explanation.
b.(-) She doesn't wash her clothes.
  • The interrogative form of verbal sentence, DO and DOES has preceding position. The example are:
a. (?) Do we go to the cinema?
b. (?) Does he ride a bicycle every morning?

B. Nominal  Sentence
Nominal sentence means that there is no verb in the sentence. It is only has noun or adjective even adverb of time.

The example of nominal sentence from simple present tense :
(+) I am a student.
(-) I am not a student.
(?) Am I a student?

Word  "Student" above has position as a noun, so that we use " To Be" (is, am , are) depend on the subject that is used in a sentence.
 the formula is:

(+) S + (is/am/are) + Noun/ adjective
(-) S+ (is/am/are) not + Noun/ adjective
(?) (Is/am/are) + S + Noun/ adjective?
